Ever have a musical orgasm? A short review of our Canadian sweethearts newest release.

I'm not much of a writer. But I have a lot of extra time to use up, a lot of energy to burn with the recent departure of my lovely sweet juicy cigarettes.

I recently picked up the new Feist disc titled " Metals ". I ran ( I really drove, I don't have that much energy ) immediately to Future Shop after I finished teaching in the studio.

I entered Future Shop and went immediately to a poster of Feist advertising the release. Looking around I could not find " Metals ". So I asked an employee who then explained to me that they have not received the delivery yet. As he glanced at Feists face advertising her release on poster behind my shoulder. With a slight blush to his cheeks, I thanked him and headed out to Best Buy.

By 8:45pm October 4th 2011, I finally popped in her album for my very first listen." The Bad In Each Other " is an amazing pick for Track 1. It is the bare bones of an aggressive and eventually hair raising album.

The production on the album is amazing, everything is so colourful and balanced in the mix. Also I notice that the musical instruments sound very organic. I am going to put this guess out there. I bet that much to nothing is synthed.

With " Metals " Leslie Feist has reached a new level of expression. Deeper sound-scapes, aggressive at times especially with " A Commotion " with at one point has an array of male vocals yelling.

Most of the tracks have a songwriting format that are what I like to call, the buildups. Essentially what that means is that as the song progress it becomes more and more layered. With an over the top bridge, then simmers down afterward. So with a format like that it could not be expressed properly or completely unless it has been listened to from beginnning to end.

Most of tracks are like this with a few exceptions like " Get It Wrong Get It Right ".

Not a damn thing wrong with that.

So in the end I found that " The Reminder " seemed to be lighter almost timid. But with " Metals" she has unleashed not her continuation to " The Reminder " but rather a entirely new canvas to her artistic life. A new book. Refreshed. Loud. Fearless.
